Salience Consulting (United Arab Emirates), in collaboration with Pioneer Consulting (US), has been awarded an engagement to perform a feasibility study for an hashtag#AntarcticCable — the world’s first submarine internet cable connectivity to the continent!
This Chilean government initiative aims to position Chile as a data traffic gateway to Antarctica, enhance regional connectivity, and strengthen digital infrastructure. The study is being supervised by Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel Chile) and CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe-).
Upon implementation, the cable will facilitate high-speed data transmission, advancing global scientific collaboration and strengthening the scientific agenda being carried out in Antarctica. It will improve communication reliability for Antarctic bases, providing better access to cloud services, videoconferencing, and online platforms. This enhancement will foster international cooperation in the region and support global environmental scientific research initiatives.
As part of the project, Salience and Pioneer will gather demand data from scientific communities that perform climate change and other advanced research in Antarctica. Numerous countries have joined the scientific efforts in Antarctica, including the UAE being the latest contributor through its Emirates Polar Program.
At Salience Consulting, we are pleased to collaborate with our partners and stakeholders on this joint effort. By enhancing scientific research and international cooperation in Antarctica, we helping to pave the way for a more connected future.
