The ECOWAS Commission hosted a workshop in Lagos, Nigeria, on October 24-25, to validate the interim report for developing the Internet Exchange Point ecosystem in the region.
Salience Consulting presented an analysis of the current status of IXPs and supporting infrastructure in the region and provided the member states options on how to craft specific initiatives in the future. Experts from ten member states, along with representatives from regional institutions, IXPs, and data service providers, engaged in productive discussions on strategies to encourage the development of IXPs and address growth barriers. They emphasized the importance of aligning regional policies with local interests to develop a robust internet infrastructure.
To further advance the RIXP initiative, pilot cases will be chosen for support in the next stage of the project.
