On June 19, 2025, at the University of Magallanes in Punta Arenas, the Salience–Pioneer Consulting Consortium joined the GORE Magallanes seminar Antarctic Cable: Connecting the Last Frontier. Juan Pablo Lefian Salinas, Business Development Manager LATAM, presented Perspectives and Opportunities for Antarctic Cable, highlighting key advances in Chile’s Antarctic fibre-optic feasibility study.
The consortium outlined two core priorities: accurately estimating future data needs across 56 Antarctic research stations and identifying the safest, most resilient submarine route. Demand modeling already incorporates research profiles, seasonal population, eco-tourism, and emerging SMART/M2M applications—supported by ongoing interviews with national programs.
In parallel, route optimization is evaluating landing points in Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams, considering seismic risks, bathymetry, and environmental sensitivities. The study also integrates environmental pre-assessments, regulatory mapping, and geopolitical analysis to align with Chilean law and the Antarctic Treaty System.
A three-phase roadmap will culminate in March 2026 with a full investment-grade package. Chile aims to position Magallanes as a sustainable digital gateway to Antarctica, supporting real-time science, green infrastructure, and global data connectivity.
