Feasibility study for new fixed line operator in Oman

Awasr Oman holds a license for fixed telecommunications, but had not previously commercialised this license. Awasr became interested in understanding the feasibility of launching a new fixed operation using the broadband network of Oman Broadband. The company owner was keen to capitalise on the changes introduced by the government’s investment in national fibre network and evaluate the possibility of competing with the existing two operators by offering high speed fibre broadband products to corporate and residential subscribers.

Salience performed a market assessment and developed a forecast model using different scenarios for market evolution. Based on benchmarking analysis of products in Oman and the region revenues were calculated and then compared with the costs of developing the operation (both capex and opex models).

The outcome of the feasibility study was a detailed business and investment case stating the growth and revenue potential for the new business.

Based on the study Awasr decided to go ahead and launch a new fixed-line operation in Oman.  Awasr has subsequently grown to become a viable fixed-line provider in Oman.
