Lively discussion this morning at ITW on Harmonising Policies and Regulations across Africa.
Our Managing Partner, Ivan Skenderoski, moderated the keynote panel with Lee Perrin, John Omo, Boris NGOSSO MSc, Eng, SSYB, SSGB and Dr. Fiona Asonga, PhD.
We discussed how state borders should be forgotten and policies should benefit all of Africa through a collaborative approach in defining and implementing them.
An interesting case study was shared on how Kenya includes private sector consultations in policy-making and how Congo has recently aligned government and private interests to deliver strong outcomes for both international and national connectivity.
The panel also touched on operational elements and skills upgrades needed to address the challenges of running data centres and digital infrastructure, and how policies could focus on training, operational standards, and best practices.
Lastly, we discussed the Afrinic vs local judiciary issue and the potential need to ringfence continent-wide resources when they are located in specific countries, as well as the importance of local community attitudes towards organisations that serve all.
Looking forward to continuing these important conversations at ITW over the coming days.
