The roundtable, “Driving Infrastructure Growth through Regulatory Reform”, brought together leading voices in the sector, including our Managing Partner Ivan Skenderoski, John Omo (Secretary General, ATU), and Ravi Suchak (Group Head of Ecternal Affairs, Sustainbility & Public Policy, Helios Towers).
The representatives from telecom operators highlighted the importance of collaboration between incumbents and new entrants to optimise the cost of tower expansion in order to accelerate the expansion of coverage and achieve greater socio-economic impact. Participants from various tower companies agreed that it is critical for them to have the right safeguards to ensure sustainable investments in the sector. The participants agreed that policy modernisation, including Universal Service Funds disbursement policies, is an effective way to expand broadband coverage in rural areas across Africa.
