STC broadband strategy

STC sought support in evaluating strategic options for next-generation broadband deployment. The work required analysing commercial opportunities, reviewing market dynamics, and identifying cost-effective rollout strategies for both mobile and fixed technologies.

The challenge

STC needed a business case to justify investment in next-generation mobile and fixed broadband networks. Competitive pressure from Mobily intensified the need to select the most viable technologies across VDSL, FTTH, 3G HSPA, and LTE, while ensuring that investment aligned with market demand and CAPEX constraints.

Project outline

• Conducted financial analysis of multiple broadband technology options
• Evaluated commercial demand, competitive positioning, and market trends
• Developed financial models comparing rollout strategies and CAPEX requirements
• Assessed cost-effective deployment pathways for fixed and mobile broadband
• Identified optimal technology mix under different market and investment scenarios

Our impact

• Delivered a clear financial comparison of STC’s technology options
• Demonstrated the most cost-effective rollout strategy for next-generation broadband
• Enabled informed investment decisions based on realistic financial modelling
