Emerging technologies in the telecommunications sector

Project designed to help Bahrain’s TRA understand emerging telecom technologies, evaluate regulatory risks, and prepare a structured roadmap for policy adaptation.

The challenge

Rapid technological advancement introduced new telecom solutions, services, and business models that challenged Bahrain’s existing regulatory framework.
TRA needed a clear, evidence-based understanding of emerging technologies and their policy implications, as well as guidance on how to adapt national regulations to ensure innovation, safety, and market readiness.

Project outline

  • Analyzed regulatory challenges, market risks, and operational implications associated with each technology.

  • Reviewed international best practices and global policy lessons to benchmark regulatory approaches.

  • Developed tailored regulatory recommendations for technology adoption and oversight.

  • Prepared an implementation roadmap outlining required policy adaptations and inter-agency coordination roles.

Our impact

  • Provided TRA with a clear understanding of priority emerging technologies and associated regulatory considerations.

  • Strengthened Bahrain’s ability to adopt new technologies while mitigating risks and ensuring market integrity.
